Mystikal Announces Album Title For Cash Money Records Debut

Following the release of his single "Original," Mystikal gears up to release his comeback album.

Mystikal has revealed the title for his upcoming Cash Money Records debut - his first album since 2001's Tarantula.

During an appearance on BET's "106 & Park," the New Orleans, Louisiana native, who was on set to debut the video for his single "Original" featuring Lil Wayne and Birdman, announced that the LP's title will also be Original.

“I know y'all been waiting on that thing, and it’s gonna be titled Original,” he said. "Those six years I was gone, I never cried. I pouted and fussed, but during the making of this video, I was fighting back tears like Diana Ross."

With another three months in prison on the horizon, Mystikal reflects on his previous six-year sentence.

Vice Magazine's Noisey recently caught up with Cash Money rapper Mystikal to speak on his career after prison. With Kool A.D. of Das Racist conducting the interview, Mystikal reflected on his six years in jail for sexual battery and extortion.

Mystikal explained that while his prison sentence ultimately made him a better man in the end, it irrevocably hurt his career. Not only did it prevent him from making music, but it also kept him from seeing his family and also marred the public image of Hip Hop in general.

"It's all bad, it's all fucked up. Ain't nothing cute about it no matter how you try to phrase it," he said. "When artists do that [kind of behavior] - I'm speaking about myself - we give the naysayers a chance to say, 'See?! I told you,' and it gives the rap game on the whole a black eye. It cost me my freedom, my career and being around my family, so we gotta pay attention to the moves we make. But I can say in spite of everything, I'm a better man for it."

Image Mystikal says he's "ashamed" of having to go back to prison.

Fans were surprised to hear Mystikal, after completing a six-year prison sentence for sexual battery and extortion and subsequently signing to Cash Money, was headed back to the pen for 81 days.

In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Mystikal candidly discussed the new sentence, which stemmed from a violation of probation for a misdemeanor domestic abuse battery charge.

"Disappointed isn't the word for it -- ashamed," admitted the emcee to Billboard. "It's hard to show up. If I stole your money and I gotta come face you again and you ask me about the money, it's gonna be hard for me to face you in the eye. So the proof is in the pudding.

"Everything I was doing, the 81 days was right there riding with me -- in the SUV, come on, who's that?" he added. "My 81 days. Everywhere I went, it was keeping me in check, and it's a fight. I can tell myself all kinds of things, I can sit there and mope, or I can get out and thank those fans the way I'm supposed to, the way they deserve to be thanked. So of course I am."

Mystikal's new sentence begins Monday (May 14).

Mystikal plans to tide fans over while he's locked away with his new mixtape.

Mystikal has announced the upcoming release of his new mixtape Origins, releasing on July 30th.

The Cash Money rapper, who will be serving an 81-day sentence when the project is released, also unveiled the cover art for the offering’s first leak, “Bullshit.” He plans to make his last tweet today a link to the song.

During a recent interview with Billboard’s The Juice, Mystikal said that he will release singles and visuals from the mixtape while he is locked away. Once he gets released from prison in August, he will tour behind the free project.

“I went in and hit a mixtape real hard like an album," he said. "Oh Lord, it's hard. It's Mystikal and all his friends… I utilized my resources, and that's production-wise, too.”
