Peace Out!

Did you know?
Billie "Lady Day" Holiday was working for Columbia Records in the late 1930s when she was introduced to a song entitled "Strange Fruit." The song was originally a poem written by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish schoolteacher from the Bronx. Meeropol penned the lyrics after seeing a photo of a black man who had been lynched.
Having set the poem to music, Meeropol began performing the song - which Holiday eventually heard and was moved by.
Holiday performed the song at Cafe Society in 1939, a move that by her own admission left her fearful of retaliation.
The song's lyrics contrasted the pastoral scenes of the South with the ugliness of racist violence - a combination that caused listeners to face the reality of lynching.
"The first time I sang it," she said "I thought it was a mistake. There wasn't even a patter of applause when I finished. Then a lone person began to clap nervously. Then suddenly everyone was clapping."
Holiday immediately recognized the impact of the song on audiences and insisted that she close all of her shows with it.
Just as the song was about to begin, waiters would stop serving, the lights in the club would be turned off, and a single pin spotlight would illuminate Holiday on stage.
During the musical introduction, Holiday would stand with her eyes closed, as if she were evoking a prayer.
"Strange Fruit" was ultimately to become the anthem of the anti-lynching movement. The dark imagery of the lyrics struck a chord, and has been said to have planted one of the first seeds of the civil rights movement.

o voce distincta a Jazz-ului romanesc

Am avut o copilarie frumoasa alaturi de sora mea Ana (care e violonista, in prezent stabilita in SUA).
In clasa a VI-a am intrat in corul de fete Voces Primavera dirijat de maestrul Negulescu cu care am facut si cateva turnee in tara si in strainatate. In toti acesti ani am continuat pianul in paralel cu scoala.
Acum sa va povestesc cum am ajuns sa cant jazz:
In clasa a XII-a, fara nici o pregatire vocala, am inceput sa cant alaturi de el in duo, voce si pian.
Am debutat in cadrul emisiunii Povestiri din Studioul Artelor a Radiodifuziunii Romane in decembrie 2002. Au urmat o serie de recitaluri si concerte in Bucuresti si in tara.
In iulie 2006 am fost invitata sa sustin doua concerte in Grecia alaturi de Priamos Morakis Quartet.
